Artist's Description
Made famous by the 1987 Steve Martin movie "Roxanne", this is the Nelson, B.C., Canada fire station. In the movie, Steve plays C.D. Bales, the local fire chief who has a large nose and a huge crush on fellow actress, Darryl Hannah who plays a gorgeous young astronomer. Unfortunately, Darryl is infactuated with one of C.D's firemen, and CD being the good guy, pens love letters to Darryl under the firemans name. The truth comes out in the end, and love conquers all.
Both the interior and exterior of this heritage building feature prominently in this film, most notably as the scene of the comedic water hose practice, and as the base of operations when CD smells the fire threatening to burn the town through his nose. The trucks roll out of the station, down the steep hill the station is located on, and follow CD to the scene of the fire, where CD saves the day.
